The 1990 theft in the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum is seen as one of the biggest art heists of all the time because the thieves were completely aware of what they were doing and made their every step carefully. They managed to remove a lot of artworks from the museum by dressing as police officers. They managed to steal many important and historical artworks by Rembrandt and other artists. The thieves were never caught despite of the fact that the police had pictures of them. It is an example of the fact that people are not aware of the actual owners of any historical piece.
